Pulsatile dopaminergic pharmacokinetics contribute to the variable beneficial effects as well as to adverse effects of treatment of Parkinson's disease and may also contribute to progression of motor side effects such as dyskinesias. We are applying our Plexis™ subcutaneous sustained release platform technology to achieve the goal of continuous dopaminergic stimulation.
We are collaborating with Dr. Ross Baldessarini at the Maclean Hospital on the preliminary work and Dr. Daniel Tarsy advises us on clinical matters. Dr. Tarsy is Associate Professor of Neurology in the Harvard Medical School and Director of the Movement Disorders Clinic, and Vice Chairman, Department of Neurology, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He has published extensively on Parkinson's disease including the 2003 textbook Tarsy D, Vitek J, Lozano A. Surgical Treatment of Parkinson's Disease and Other Movement Disorders. He is a member of the editorial board of Movement Disorders and member of board, Movement Disorders Society. He and Dr. Baldessarini have collaborated for many years on problems related to the neuropharmacology of movement disorders including Parkinson's Disease.
