Albert Einstein College of Medicine

Betsy Herold, MD, has recently joined the faculty and the Center for AIDS Research at Albert Einstein College of Medicine as a Professor of Pediatrics and Microbiology.  Her basic research focuses on defining the pathways required for genital herpes infection of human cells (R01 AI065309), and the interactions between HSV, HIV and genital tract mucosal immunity (R01 AI061679).  She has established an integrated pre-clinical and clinical program focused on topical microbicides. These efforts have successfully introduced new investigators into the field, and led to the successful submission of 5 NIH program project grants in the field of microbicide research.  She currently serves on the Scientific Development Committee of the Microbicide Trial Network as the Chair for microbicide safety biomarkers and on the Scientific Advisory Board of IPM.  She is also a member of the Office of AIDS Research Advisory Council.
